Biddenham U14 Cricket v Mark Rutherford

26/05/2010 - Alan Brown
Biddenham U14 Cricket v Mark Rutherford
25th May 2010

Mark Rutherford 108 all out (16 overs)
Biddenham 100 - 5 (16 overs)

Biddenham lost by 9 runs

Biddenham knew this would be a tough game before we got there as Mark Rutherford were known to have 7 Bedford Town players and a number of those that played for Bedfordshire. The task was not made any easier by the state of the pitch but that would be the same for both sides, so it would probably be the team that coped with the conditions better that would turn out to be victorious. On this occasion it was Mark Rutherford who won a tightly contested game that went down to the last over.

Biddenham won the toss and rightly decided to field first. Despite the condition of the pitch looking like it would favour the bowlers, the Mark Rutherford opening batsmen quickly moved to 30 without loosing a wicket from the first 4 overs. It was then that Man of the Match, Ibrar Kazmi, made his impact with 3 wickets from 4 balls in one over and then in his final over he added another wicket to his total, finishing with 4 wickets for 17 runs. The fielding was very good putting pressure on the batsmen and also leading to 3 run outs all involving wicket keeper Ameer Hussain. Juel Miah, Shahadat Khan and captian Tim Larrier all took 1 wicket each to leave Mark Rutherford with a total of 108 all out. The top scorer for the opposition, for the second week running was the extras!! This week we gave away a massive 50 runs.

Larrier and Hussain opened the batting for Biddenham for the 3rd game in a row. Unfortunately Hussain was able to recreate his form from the St. Thomas More game and was given out LBW early on in the innings. Indi Bhamra was soon to follow after hitting a glorious straight drive for 4. Larrier battled well on an uneven pitch for a number of overs before being bowled by a ball that did not bounce for 12. Ibrar Kazmi batted for a period of time before being caught behind from a ball that seemed to leap out of the pitch at his head. On his debut for the team Sameer Safi batted very well ending on 21 not out with Juel Miah on 3 not out. Biddenham were in the game right to the very end, and with a bit more fortune could have been undefeated in 3 games. Unfortunately that was not to be today and so we move on to Thursday where we play Sharnbrook at home.
