Biddenham U14 Cricket v Wootton
20th May 2010

Wootton 64 – 8 (11.4 overs)
Biddenham 65 – 6 (10.4 overs)

Biddenham won by 4 wickets

Biddenham kept up their winning start to the season with a scrappy win over Wootton Upper School. The game was played at Biddenham on a great night for cricket. The sun was out and their was a slight breeze to help keep the temperature down. Biddenham won the toss and decided to bowl so that they could take advantage of the new ball and what looked to be a lively wicket.

This decision proved to be a good one as Wootton were reduced to 12 for 3 in the first 3 overs. Opening bowlers Ibrar Kazmi (1 wicket) and Juel Miah (2 wickets) looked dangerous in their first 2 overs. The change bowlers provided great support with Loukman Islam bowling a good line and length only giving away 5 runs from his 2 overs. Captain Tim Larrier looked like he would cause the batsmen more trouble taking a wicket with his first ball. The fielders did not want to be left out and some outstanding work kept the run rate down and it was all topped off with a great direct hit from Indi Bhamra running out the Wootton No. 6. Despite all the effoerts of the fielding team, Reed scored a very good 28 for Wootton but the top scorer form them were the extras that Biddenham gave away. These accounted for half of the Wootton score, something Biddenham will need to improve upon if they are to progress further!!

Opening bowler Kazmi was not finished yet. He came on for his second spell and finished of the Wootton batsmen including the wicket of Reed. Kazmi finished with figures of 3.4 overs 16 runs for 4 wickets, a brilliant performance and on any other day would have received man of the match!!

Biddenham were set a target of 65 to win from 16 overs but did not get off to a brilliant start losing both openers for only 7 runs. Last weeks man of the match Ameer Hussain was not quite as successful this week giving his wicket away with what can only be described as a poor choice of shot!!

Biddenham fell foul of the 20/20 bug and seemed to believe that they could hit everything out of the ground, forgetting that they needed to stay at the crease to score any runs. The Wootton opening bowlers bowled very well with Bygraves taking 4 wickets for 5 runs. Then along came Junaid Awan, batting at number 6 for Biddenham. While all around him were losing their heads and panicking he batted very sensibly, blocking the straight balls and dispatching the bad balls all over MK40!! Awan took advantage of the change in bowling and scored a very good 20 not out to ensure that Biddenham won the game.

Next week we take on Mark Rutherford and will need to improve on our bowling if we are to continue on our winning streak.
