Joint fundraising for Haiti

Representatives from the School Councils of Queens Park Lower School, Westfield Middle School, St John’s Special School Sixth Form and Biddenham International School all met for the first time as our “Supra-School Council” the week before last.  They will continue to meet once every half term.

The atmosphere was electric.  Students from all schools began discussing the issues that they feel are important for us to work on together.

One of the issues they felt we should address first was having joint mufti days, where every school dresses down and sends the money to the same charity on the same day so we all feel part of the bigger picture.

Yesterday we all paid a contribution to wear normal clothes, but agreed we would wear either red or blue in order to represent the colours of the Haitian flag.  All of the money raised will go towards helping the victims of the tragic disaster that took place this month.  Each school asked the students to stand in the formation of the flag and have a photo taken - partly so we could all have proof we were all doing the same thing on the same day, but mainly to show solidarity for the people of Haiti – and hopefully to raise awareness in the local press and on our websites about this important issue that is happening right now.

We want the people of Haiti to know we are thinking about them, and sending our positive wishes for as speedy a recovery as possible.  Not only that we will be sending a substantial sum of money towards the DEC to help with aid they so desperately need.  As soon as the total has been counted we will publish it here.

Many thanks to the staff and students in each of the schools for making this possible.

In peace.

The students and staff of Queens Park Lower School, Westfield Middle School, St John’s Special School Sixth Form and Biddenham International School.
