Description – A mixture of practical work, supported by theoretical knowledge of nutrition, hygiene and working properties of foods. What will I learn – Basic practical skills and how these can be used and adapted? The function of ingredients, importance of nutrition, special dietary requirements, ethical issues of food and food preparation. Technological developments and ‘smart’ foods. How will be assessed – Coursework (60%), practical work and supporting portfolio. Examination (higher/foundation) 40% Extras – Students take part in practical work every week – when this is individual work then ingredients need to be provided or purchased from school. Anything else – All students must be aware that they are responsible for clearing away efficiently at the end of practical sessions. Future opportunities – Any career involving nutrition of food handling. |
