Description of subject The students have the opportunity to study and work with a variety of fabrics and components to produce textile products, and gain knowledge of industrial and commercial practices within the design area. What will I learn? Students will learn to : design and make items to a given brief; understand the properties of fibres and fabrics, and their construction: use of appropriate components; use a range of decorative techniques. They will also gain knowledge of the History of Fashion and Furnishings How will I be assessed? This will be 50% coursework, through portfolio work and 50% written exam based primarily on Materials and components. This will form 25% for each unit at A level. What are the entry requirements? GCSE Textiles helps but it is not a requirement. What extras costs may be involved? (this is for field trips, specialist equipment etc) Students will need to purchase fabric, thread and any necessary components to manufacture their designs.
