AS/ A2 Travel and Tourism The travel and tourism course will allow students to develop: -an appreciation for the diversity and complexity of the travel and tourism industry -practical and technical skills relevant to the travel and tourism industry -an understanding of the issues that are affecting the travel and tourism industry What will I learn? Subjects covered throughout the two years of the course are: The travel and tourism industry, customer service, European destinations, current issues in travel and tourism, travel organisations and responsible tourism How will I be assessed? Assessment for AS Unit 1 – Compulsory. External (Examination) - The Travel and Tourism Industry Unit 2 – Compulsory. Internal (Coursework) - The Travel and Tourism Customer Unit 3 – Optional. Internal (Coursework) - Destination Europe Assessment for A2 Unit 7 – Compulsory. External (Examination) - Responsible Tourism Unit 8 – Compulsory. Internal (Coursework) - Current issues in Travel and Tourism Unit 12 - Optional. Internal (Coursework) - Travel organisations What are the entry requirements? Entry Requirements to AS: No prior knowledge is required. Four GCSE’s grade A* - C. to include English and Maths Entry Requirements to A2: AS in Travel and Tourism grade A–E To study on the AS Pathway you will need at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above plus Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy, both at level 2; or 5 GCSEs at grade C or above. You will study 4 subjects. You will also study AS Critical Thinking and Certificate in Sports Leadership. This pathway is worth up to 1,080 QCA points. What are the costs? There will be visits connected to the course such as the Paris 2007 visit. They will be used as case studies to enhance knowledge, skills and understanding of the units being studied. There is a possibility of financial assistance to support such visits. Is there anything else I need to know? The course will appeal if you: •Have a genuine interest in the travel and tourism industry.
