Description Graphic Products aims to prepare students to participate in today’s rapidly changing technological world. It is concerned with both visual imagery and the production of 3 dimensional outcomes. The course encourages students to become autonomous and creative problem solvers as individuals and members of a team. Students must look for needs, wants and opportunities, responding to them by developing a range of ideas and making products and systems. The course combines design and making skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices. Students’ critical skills are developed through the evaluation of past and current design and technology, its uses and effects. Learning Objectives Students will acquire and apply knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of materials, components, processes and industrial practices associated with the manufacture of graphic products. Students will design and model a number of quality products in compliant materials to convey 3 dimensional concepts. These will then be evaluated against a product specification. Students will apply their knowledge and skills to critically evaluate a range of products to determine their functional and aesthetic effectiveness. A range of ICT applications including CAD/CAM and systems and control will be used throughout the course. An understanding of how industry uses CAD/CAM and ICT in a range of manufacturing environments will be developed. Assessment Graphic Products allows access to the full range of GCSE grades. Students will be assessed as follows 1 written paper 2 Hours 40% overall grade Coursework 40 Hours 60% overall grade Entry Requirements Recommended prior learning is to have studied the corresponding Key Stage 3 programme of study in Design Technology GCSE Graphic Products enables students to progress either directly to employment or to proceed to further qualifications i.e. GCE Product Design |
