Triumph at the Royal Albert Hall

Last night saw a spectacular Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, with some stunning performances and a general celebration, with balloons and even some fireworks (yes indoors!)

But the most exciting performance to my mind was that of the Steel Band at Biddenham Upper school, which excelled itself and righly gained a huge ovation from the audience. It is quite something to see a hall of this size packed to capacity, and an enormous honour for the schools involved to be invited to perform.

The school had its own Dressing Room. Unfortunately the band was cooped up inside this for a rather long time before being called for the final rehearsal, but there was at least a television, and there were some card games to play.

For the record, these were the stars who performed.

Mention must also be made of Mr. Murphy, who with such enthusiasm directed the band, and also of Mr. Horton, who has been living and breathing this project for some months.

A DVD will be produced within the next eight weeks, when we will all be able to relive the event. Hearty congratulations to all those involved; this must mark as one of the greatest triumphs of people at Biddenham since the school came into being.

In the meantime, several students were wandering about with cameras, and it would be good to see some of the pictures and have them put up on the web-site. If they can be emailed to rleggat@biddenham.org that would be excellent!
