New Sports facilitiesAfter two years of planning, site meetings and lots of mud the new sports facilities are finally open. The buildings are complete and with one or two internal jobs to finish off we can now celebrate our Sports College status with facilities that are second to none. The extension creates a new entrance with a foyer and reception as well as a new patio area that will give more social space for students. The PE department now have a base and have finally de-cluttered the staff room (to the relief of the whole staff) and the increased space for teaching has been a great addition to the school. We have a new teaching room which has state of the art computer desks and if you haven’t heard the screens do rise out of the desks, making it an ICT room and /or a normal classroom! Next door is a new Fitness Suite. This contains the latest ‘Techno Gym’ equipment including machines that have TV screens linked up to free view and a range of weight resistance kit for a variety of activities. The Gym is open to all students as an extra curricular club and will shortly be opening for membership to the local community. The building also contains two brand new changing facilities with fully disabled facilities and lockers. The old part of the building has also had a make over with upgraded changing, shower and toilet facilities as well as various office and storage spaces. The old exam store in the Sports Hall has become an ’Ergo’ rowing room with ten machines that are used by students in and out of lessons. We now have a welcoming environment that will help students learning and befit our growing status in the community as a Sports College. However, with plans for more developments in the pipe line including a Dance/Drama studio and a refurbished Sports Hall we hope to create the best school sports facilities in the county.
